I started writing in 2003, but it took a few false starts over the next ten years before I completed my first novel, The Cabinetmaker. Despite one agent and one small publishing company showing interest, they didn’t take the book on, so I self published on Kindle, and latterly on Smashwords. It was favourably reviewed, which was very encouraging.
My second book, Blue Wicked, took a year to write and I used the feedback I’d had from the first book, resulting in a shorter, more pithy novel than the first one.
My third book, Bloq, was published on 1st April 2016. Although the lead character is Scottish, most of the story takes place in London. It’s fair to say that Bloq made a much bigger impact and I probably should have written another crime story to build on it’s success, but…
After five years researching and writing, and a complete change of genre, the Sturmtaucher Trilogy, a holocaust story, was released in late 2021.
I was born in Glasgow 1960 and lived there for the first 22 years of my life. I am now retired after nearly forty years as a country vet, and live on the Ayrshire coast. I’m a volunteer Coxswain on our local RNLI lifeboat. I’m married with four grown up children and four beautiful grandchildren, and in my spare time I read, sail, make furniture, play football and watch films, when I’m not writing.
Alan Jones is my pen name.
